#NationalMargaritaDay is one of our favorite days of the year because it gives us the best excuse to drink all the margaritas – can we get them in the office today too? Thanks to Houston’s amazing Tex-Mex culture, we have a vast array of restaurants & bars featuring a margarita for every tequila & mezcal lover under the sun.
To celebrate this glorious day, we’ve made a list of the 8 best margarita spots to get your salty lime fix. Whether you like it frozen, on the rocks or maybe with a little bit of flavor (strawberry is my go-to), we’ve got you covered.
Know of a margarita spot we missed? Be sure to share with us in the comments below – it’s not fair to keep it all to yourself!
1. The Pastry War
Marked by the vibrant drinking culture of Mexico and the rich history of agave spirits, The Pastry War brings you one of the best margaritas in the city. Whether you select one of their premium mezcal margaritas or any of their three delicious flavors (like habanero + serrano with chile pequin salt), they are sure not to disappoint.
2. Eight Row Flint
Don’t let this whiskey ice house fool you. Eight Row Flint boasts one of the best cocktail bars in Houston. Their classic margarita (frozen or on the rocks) made with Agavales Overproof Tequila will have you basking in all its glory. And what better way to pair a margarita than with their authentic street tacos and fresh guacamole?
Sometimes you just need one of those big ‘ole ruthless margaritas, and you don’t really care where you get it from. If this is you, Chacho’s is your place. You won’t get your hip bar with photo-worthy interior, but you will get a margarita that is sure to delight. Or maybe you’re trying to enjoy your #NationalMargaritaDay at home, then just pick one up in the drive-thru. You’re welcome.
4. Teotihuacan Mexican Cafe
With recognition such as Texas Monthly’s & Houstonia’s Top 50 Mexican spots, Teotihuacan is where authentic Mexican food and drink is made with the utmost care. If you’re the kind of margarita lover that wants to not only indulge in your margarita but pair it with a sizzling plate of fajitas, then you’ve undoubtedly met your match.
5. Alma Latina the Heights
Alma Latina’s full tequila bar is a crowd-pleaser and a Heights neighborhood staple. Their selection of tequila and mezcal is hard to compete with, and any margarita lover will find themselves knees-deep in their flavorful margs.
6. El Big Bad
This one is for our bar folks – El Big Bad is the world’s largest infused tequila bar with over 70 house-infused tequilas. Plus, they were rated Houston’s Best Margarita for 2019. With their profound tequilas and endless flavor options, there’s no telling how many margarita combinations you can come up with. They are throwing their 9th Annual National Margarita Day Party this Friday. Get your tickets here.
Not only is Pistolero’s one of the best tequila bars in the city, they throw a gnarly #NationalMargaritaDay party complete with $5 margaritas, $6 mezcals, and a DJ spinning music – this is the place you go to drink up those margs and let loose.
8. The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation
You’d be crazy to think our list would be complete without The Original Ninfa’s. If you’re a Houston native, you know the Original Ninfa’s margaritas are not one to be challenged. Need we say more?
