Discovery Green presents GUST: Celebrating a Decade of Discovery

Celebrate 10 years of Discovery Green with their latest public art display. GUST, created by Mexico City-based design collective Cocolab, is made up of 1600 colorful, handmade pinwheels. At night, the entire installation is illuminated and changes lights with the direction of the breeze.
GUST will be on view from Nov. 16, 2018, to March 20, 2019.
The installation will be on view daily during park hours, and lights will be activated nightly from dusk until midnight. Discovery Green invites visitors to enjoy special activations at the park while GUST is on view, including:
Cocolab: Artists Talk (Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., Hess Deck), a talk by Cocolab artist Felipe Linares about the studio’s philosophy and processes against the backdrop of GUST. Hess Deck.
Transforming the Spirit in Song (Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, from 7 to 8 p.m., Hess Deck), featuring members of the Houston Grand Opera Chorus in a holiday sing-along led by HGOco Music Director and Composer-In-Residence Damien Sneed.
Runway (Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at 5 p.m., Brown Foundation Promenade), a fashion show featuring works by Houston-based artists and designers, in collaboration with LAUNCH, followed by a party and artist market.
Be the Artist: Houston Center for Photography Workshop (select Wednesdays, 6:30 to 8 p.m., Brown Foundation Promenade), a series of free workshops focusing on night photography (Nov. 29, 2018), motion (Dec. 19, 2018), composition (Jan. 30, 2019) and color (Feb. 27, 2019).
Haz tu Propio Reguilete (Make your own Pinwheels) (Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, from 2 to 4 p.m., Hess Deck), a hands-on pinwheel-making workshop with Houston piñata and mache paper Catrinas expert Griselda Flores, presented in partnership with the Consular General of Mexico in Houston.
